Allianz appoints chief data officer

Allianz UK has named Akhil Lalwani as chief data officer, following the creation of a centralised data function. He will report to chief operating officer Fergal Coburn.

In the role, Lalwani will oversee the firm’s UK Data Centre of Excellence, covering data strategy, privacy and governance, data architecture, engineering and business intelligence.

Lalwani joins from Convex Insurance, where he was CDO. He has also held senior data roles at Prudential, Barclays and BT.

Fergal Coburn, chief operating officer, commented: “I look forward to welcoming Akhil to Allianz UK. He joins my leadership team at an exciting time as we look to drive further innovation and value by centralising the data function. He is a proven leader and champion of how data strategies can drive customer outcomes. I know with his experience and passion he will be an asset to our data teams and the wider organisation.”
