FERMA has called on the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU to formally recognise the strategic value of risk management in strengthening Europe’s resilience and global competitiveness.
In its Contribution to the new Danish Presidency, the Federation highlighted two key areas where risk managers can actively support EU objectives: crisis preparedness and the simplification of sustainability and cyber security requirements.
FERMA welcomed the Presidency’s focus on implementing the EU’s Preparedness Union Strategy and reiterated the urgency of addressing climate and cyber insurance protection gaps. It also called for stronger cross-sectoral cooperation, a permanent risk manager role within the European Commission, and the creation of a Europe-wide risk management training programme based on its Rimap certification.
On regulatory simplification, FERMA called for clear guidance on applying enterprise risk management methodologies to double materiality assessments under CSRD, and a risk-based approach to due diligence under CS3D. It also urged harmonisation of cyber security rules to ease the reporting burden on organisations.
FERMA president Charlotte Hedemark commented: “The Danish Presidency’s focus on preparedness and simplification aligns strongly with the value risk managers bring as enablers of resilience and competitiveness. As the EU faces multiple challenges, it is imperative that risk management is recognised as a strategic tool to safeguard Europe’s future, reinforce its global standing and ensure its ability to respond to today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.”
