The Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions has approved the use of ZestyAI’s Severe Convective Storm suite, giving insurers access to property-level AI insights for underwriting and rating. The approval includes Z-HAIL, Z-WIND and Z-STORM, models designed to assess hail and wind damage risk more precisely than traditional methods.
Arizona experienced 67 days of severe storm activity in 2024, according to NOAA, including high winds, hail, tornadoes and damaging downbursts. These events, especially intense straight-line winds, have caused increasing damage to roofs and structures across the state.
ZestyAI’s models aim to address these challenges by analysing how local weather interacts with individual property features. Unlike ZIP code-based approaches, the platform produces property-specific predictions of claim likelihood and severity, drawing on real-world claims data.
“Arizona is a key market for many of our carrier partners and one of the most rigorous regulatory environments for model review,” said Bryan Rehor, director of regulatory affairs at ZestyAI. “This approval is a strong signal of confidence in our technology and our commitment to transparency, precision and regulatory alignment.”
Arizona becomes the 19th state to approve ZestyAI’s storm suite – and the fourth model approved in Arizona overall, alongside the Z-FIRE wildfire risk model.
