Cytora secures AI certification for responsible risk tech

Cytora has become one of the first companies globally to achieve ISO/IEC 42001 certification, the new international standard for artificial intelligence governance.

The certification recognises Cytora’s implementation of formal oversight mechanisms across its AI systems, including risk reviews, human-in-the-loop controls and impact assessments. It builds on the firm’s existing ISO 27001 accreditation.

ISO/IEC 42001 sets out requirements for the development and operation of AI at scale, and is intended to support responsible adoption across sectors.

AI forms the basis of Cytora’s digital risk processing platform, which is used by commercial insurers to digitise submissions and automate workflows across underwriting and claims.

Security director João Domingues said: “As AI technology becomes more deeply embedded in our world, it is crucial that innovation is handled responsibly to protect the integrity of the insurance industry and the people it serves. We are therefore proud to be one of the first insurance technology providers to receive ISO/IEC 42001. It reflects our culture and deep commitment to developing transformative technology for the insurance industry in an ethical and accountable way."

The announcement follows the launch of Cytora’s Concierge service and recent partnerships with insurers including Chubb, Arch and Everest. The company reported a sevenfold increase in processed transaction volume during 2024.
