Markel-backed Certa aims to set DA best practice

Delegated authority specialist Dan Lott has partnered with Markel International and Certa Insurance Partners to launch Certa Specialty Limited, a London-based consultancy aimed at helping managing agents and coverholders navigate complex delegated authority arrangements.

The new firm will offer tailored services across the delegated authority lifecycle, including oversight frameworks, MGA build-outs, branded capacity management, compliance and bespoke binding authority agreement drafting. It will also provide end-to-end support for new and growing MGAs, from concept and product strategy to operational setup, branding and market engagement.

“Managing agents are under pressure to deliver proportionate, future-ready oversight frameworks. Certa Specialty will help cut through the complexity and build programmes that efficiently work for carriers and coverholders alike,” said David Sawyer, managing director, professional and financial risks and cyber at Markel International.

Dan Lott, CEO and co-founder, added: “Launching or scaling an MGA can feel overwhelming. Certa Specialty brings clarity to every step, building confidence within the MGA management team and allowing them to focus on underwriting and product development.”

The launch follows Markel’s October 2023 acquisition of a 49% stake in Certa Insurance Partners Limited and TLI Certa Europe GmbH.
