McGovern appointed LMA chair

Sean McGovern has become the new chair of the Lloyd’s Market Association for a three-year term, effective 1st January 2026.

McGovern leads Axa XL’s insurance business in the UK and Lloyd’s market as chief executive officer, UK and Lloyd’s, and is a director of its managing agent, Axa XL Underwriting Agencies. He also sits on the Council of Lloyd’s, is a trustee of the Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund, and was previously chair of the London Market Group.

McGovern joined XL Group in 2016 as chief compliance officer, head of regulatory and government affairs, before later becoming general counsel. Prior to that, he spent 20 years at the Lloyd’s of London Corporation in leadership roles, including chief risk officer and general counsel, and served on the Lloyd’s of London Franchise Board from 2014 to 2016.

He succeeds Andrew Brooks, who has completed two terms as LMA chair.
