Aviva and Accure begin two-year battery storage pilot

Aviva has launched a two-year pilot with German battery analytics firm Accure Battery Intelligence aimed at improving risk management for battery energy storage system assets.

The insurer will incorporate continuous safety monitoring into its risk evaluation framework, with eligible Aviva clients able to access preferential onboarding fees for Accure's monitoring platform through the scheme.

Accure's technology analyses operational data to identify potential battery faults and safety risks, supporting maintenance and operational oversight at grid-scale storage sites.

Kai-Philipp Kairies, chief executive and co-founder of Accure Battery Intelligence, said: “BESS owners are expected to show that safety risks are actively managed. Accure’s unique predictive analytics create transparency and accountability at the asset level. We are encouraged to see this approach recognised in a way that translates into improved insurance conditions for operators.”

Chris Andrews, director of Global Risk Management Solutions at Aviva, added: “Predictive analytics such as those provided by Accure enable BESS asset owners to materially improve their risk profile by providing the tools for predictive condition-based maintenance. This reduces the likelihood of faults causing downtime or provoking larger losses."
