Marsh targets digital infrastructure risks

Marsh has launched a new property insurance facility designed to address the complex operational risks facing digital infrastructure projects, including datacentres and associated critical support systems.

Stratus provides access to up to US$10bn in property insurance capacity through the property risk transfer market on a single-placement basis.

The facility brings together 30 traditional and alternative capital providers, with participants assessing each risk individually to determine the most appropriate support for each placement.

“As large digital infrastructure projects shift from construction to operation, the associated risks become larger and more complex, driven by multi-billion-dollar campuses, self-generating power systems, and emerging technologies used in processing units and critical equipment,” said Joe Macejak, US property digital infrastructure leader, Marsh Risk. “By combining Marsh’s engineering data and analytics, risk consulting capabilities and access to the global re/insurance and capital markets, Stratus is designed to improve the quality and efficiency of operational digital infrastructure property placements and help clients secure the protection they need to support growth at scale.”

Stratus is designed to extend Marsh’s construction-phase insurance facility, Nimbus, as digital infrastructure assets move into the next stage of their lifecycle. The two facilities can be engaged separately or together, with additional coverages added as client needs evolve.

The new facility will initially focus on property insurance, with plans to expand into inland marine, cyber and casualty.
