Marsh launches construction insurance facilities

Marsh has launched two insurance facilities for UK construction contractors, targeting risks associated with road and highway projects and contractors’ plant and equipment.

Strada provides project-specific cover for road contractors, including construction all risks and third-party liability. Its policy terms address challenges such as project extensions, roads remaining open to traffic during construction and phased completions.

Underwritten by a panel of global insurers and reinsurers, Strada offers limits of up to £1bn for construction all risks and £1m for third-party liability.

The second facility, Machina, covers contractors’ plant and equipment through standalone policies or annual construction programmes. It uses a pre-agreed rating matrix to provide consistent pricing, with capacity tailored to individual placements.

Guy Fitzgibbon, head of global contractors at Marsh Risk, said: “The UK construction industry is set to grow by 3.2% annually between 2027 and 2030, driven by rising investment in datacentres, transport infrastructure and housing. Road and highway projects sit at the heart of this ambition, but they remain one of the most complex risks to insure: work periods are frequently extended, with structures and roads often open to traffic before the project is formally handed over. This results in prolonged exposures for construction contractors ahead of completion."
