CII's member firms "fail to promote it"

The future of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) could be at stake as too few members are active in promoting the organisation, claims Grant Scott ACII, president of the Insurance Institute of Leicester.

Scott is also an associate director at Cowens Survival Capability, one of only 59 UK firms to have Chartered Insurance Broker status, a standard which shows quality criteria have been met. He says that too many larger organisations are not pulling their weight when it comes to promoting membership of the professional body.

"There are a number of businesses who pay lip service to the standard, and are happy to have the CII chartered status badge but do not get involved in ensuring the continuity of quality," Scott comments.

"Obtaining the standard shows that organisations are committed to the highest professional standards and with it comes a responsibility to maintain those standards. While many smaller firms get involved in membership activities, there are those who do very little.

"I'd like to see the larger outfits getting involved because without their contribution, the future of the CII could well be under threat."
