HSE calls on industry to support study into Covid-19 transmission risk in the workplace

The Health and Safety Executive is joining forces with workplaces up and down the country in a study designed to better understand respiratory virus transmission risk in the workplace.

The Wear-It Study, part of the Protect Covid-19 National Core Study, aims to better understand and control the risk of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 as we adapt to living with the disease. It will also inform on better responses to future respiratory infectious disease outbreaks or potential pandemics.

Small, wearable devices are provided to willing workers at participating workplaces during an agreed period. These devices are used in combination with static beacons, which label the interactions collected by the wearables with location information.

Workplaces of interest include those with indoor operational areas, such as large offices, food and drink manufacturing, engineering, warehouses and fulfilment centres and others – ideally with at least 50 staff on site.

Participating staff would be asked to wear small devices while at work for up to two weeks.

The project team can be reached at wear-it@hse.gov.uk or on 020 3028 3456.
