Flood Re drops in on Parliament

Fifty MPs attended an educational drop-in event in Parliament last week held by Flood Re to discuss the flood insurance scheme, the Build Back Better initiative and the mechanics of property flood resilience.

The majority of MPs and researchers attending the session were newly elected or appointed following this year’s General Election.

The session offered MPs the chance to speak with Flood Re interim CEO Stuart Logue, Julie Foley, director of flood risk strategy and national adaptation at the Environment Agency and Chris Rumsey, head of public affairs at the Association of British Insurers.

Kelly Ostler-Coyle, head of communications and stakeholder engagement at Flood Re said the role of property-level flood resilience is increasingly important as the clock ticks towards 2039, and the return to risk-reflective pricing.

“MPs have an important role to play promoting local flood defence investment, promoting flood resilience measures and water management schemes in their constituencies as well as ensuring their constituents know where they can access information about their flood risk, how they can prepare for flooding and how they can protect their homes if flooding strikes,” she added.

The event coincided with the Environment Agency’s Flood Action Week.
